How to register for the HSK in Spain

chinesetest.cn is Chinese Testing International’s site for accounts and session choice. That alone does not finish payment at many Spanish Confucius Institutes. The institute still wants a photo, an ID match, and a local fee flow.

Valencia states it in writing. The University of Valencia’s 2026 instructions PDF says registration is not valid unless both layers are done, and it describes one sitting (exam on 6 June 2026, signup 13 March-5 May 2026) in Instrucciones_matricula_final_oficial.pdf. That 6 June belongs to that Valencia call. It is not “the” 2026 HSK date for Spain.

Granada and Madrid publish their own sittings. If you mix a Valencia window with a Granada price and a provisional Madrid notice, you invent a checkout that does not exist. Pick one center. Follow its page. Then return to the portal.

A common mistake is treating the automatic chinesetest.cn email as a finished seat. That email means the system logged an attempt. It does not replace local payment or the institute’s room list.

If you live in Spain but read English UI screenshots from a friend abroad, stop. Their country dropdown is not SPAIN. Their fee is not yours. Your path is Europe, then Spain, then the center you can physically reach.

Granada’s registration tutorial (PDF dated 16 September 2025) walks the English UI on chinesetest.cn: Register or Log in, exam type, level, format (paper-based is one option; computer at the center is another), date, continent Europe, country SPAIN, and the center Confucius Institute at the University of Granada. The PDF is the Granada registration tutorial. Live sittings sit on examenes-hsk/convocatorias.

Match the English name the portal shows. The local Spanish label may not be the dropdown string. If you pick a similar campus by accident, you buy a trip you did not plan.

Choose the format your center publishes for that sitting. Paper and on-site computer are not the same seat. If the center offers only one, do not book the other “just in case.”

When seats fill, the center can close early. Granada’s material warns about that. Capacity wins. If Test Records still does not show confirmed payment, do not assume the chair is held.

Before you pay anything, open official HSK links for 2026 as well. That page maps domains. This page only covers the Spain path.

Keep a plain note while you click: level, format, center English name, and the date string the portal shows. You will need those four fields when the institute form asks you to prove you already booked. Do not trust memory after three tabs of PDFs.

After Book a test, Test Records may show Unpaid until the institute confirms payment. Granada’s tutorial documents that state. Unpaid is not a browser glitch. It means the local step is still open.

The local step often asks for a certificate photo that matches the ID you will carry on exam day. Do not invent pixel sizes here. Read the center’s instruction. If the photo is a holiday shot and the ID is another face, you argue with the desk, not with this blog.

Payment is whatever that institute lists: card, transfer, or its own checkout. Do not copy another city’s amount. Do not pay the oral twice because the portal and the institute offer overlapping paths. Madrid’s rule is below.

When the institute validates, Paid (or the equivalent status) replaces Unpaid. Until then, treat the booking as incomplete. Valencia’s wording is blunt: without both layers, that sitting’s registration is not valid.

If the local deadline closes before the portal’s, the local deadline wins. If the portal still lets you click and the institute has already filled seats, the institute wins. Email only if the page is silent. Do not invent a third form from a school that never appears under SPAIN on chinesetest.cn.

On the portal you choose paper-based or computer at the test center when both exist. Granada’s tutorial lists those format options. In practice, read the concrete sitting: venue, computer UI language, and whether the oral is the same day.

The automatic chinesetest.cn email is not the room schedule. Madrid’s notice for 14 November 2026 says you book the written HSK on chinesetest.cn, the matching HSKK is added, you must not book the oral twice, and that automatic email is not the room or the clock. The page (marked provisional on the institute site) states a signup window of 14 September-14 October 2026 and notes that the institute enrolls its own course students: HSK exam 14 November 2026. Provisional means it can move. Re-read that URL before you book a train or a hotel.

Granada’s same 2026 convocatorias page lists, among other dates, a paper sitting on 17 October 2026 at the institute seat (C/ Paz 18), with signup until about 20 September 2026 or until full. On 24 September 2026, earlier 2026 dates on that table may already have passed. Do not tell yourself to enroll in January or July 2026 from this article. Open Granada convocatorias and find the next open date.

If your city is not Granada, Valencia, or Madrid, you do not inherit those days. Find your center under SPAIN on chinesetest.cn and read its site. Stop there.

Barcelona, Seville, or a university institute not named above may run different formats on different weekends. This article does not invent their windows. If the institute page and chinesetest.cn disagree by a day, ask the institute in writing and keep the reply with your receipt.

HSK 1 and HSK 2 are often written-only in these notices. From HSK 3 up, many Spanish centers pair an oral (HSKK). If you only need a sense of how “conversational” the written levels feel, read what HSK level is conversational and come back to the fee.

Granada’s 2026 public price table on that convocatorias page is a Granada grid, not a Spain grid: HSK 1 and HSK 2 at 50 € each; HSK 3 + elementary HSKK 113 €; HSK 4 + intermediate HSKK 123 €; HSK 5 + advanced HSKK 148 €; HSK 6 + advanced HSKK 148 €; HSK 7-9 computer 190 €; HSKK alone elementary / intermediate / advanced 55 / 65 / 75 €. If the table header on the live page shows a typo such as “HSKK 5,” read the row as HSK 5 + advanced oral the way the columns are meant. You are reading their published grid. Re-open the page before you pay. Other cities differ. The center page wins over this article.

Madrid’s notice above says you book the written HSK on chinesetest.cn and the matching HSKK is added. Do not duplicate the oral. If you want oral only, check whether your center sells standalone HSKK and at what rate. Granada lists those three solo bands; do not copy them onto Madrid.

Do not mix a combined price with a written-only booking. The receipt must match what the institute confirms, not a 2024 screenshot.

The night before you pay, close four checks. First: the name on chinesetest.cn matches the passport or national ID you will carry. No nicknames. No half surname if the document shows the full string.

Second: the certificate photo is the same person as the ID. Readable light. No filter that changes the face. The institute asks for the file; it also states the size.

Third: the level is the paper you have practised, not the line that looks good on a CV. 谢谢 (xièxie, thank you) does not place you in HSK 4. If you are still on the floor, the HSK 1 eight-week plan exists so you do not pay for a room your listening cannot hold.

Fourth: one center. Do not leave Unpaid in Granada and a second attempt in Madrid “just in case” without reading cancellation rules. One city’s quota does not reserve the other’s.

Quick extras: format (paper or computer) aligned with the sitting; HSKK not duplicated; institute page re-opened on payment day. If something does not match, you stop. You do not invent a third portal.

While the seat is still in the future, open the list for the level you booked. On vocabulary pick HSK 4 (or whichever level you reserved) and work that queue. Chinese Trainer does not take the exam fee or book a room. Payment stays with the institute and chinesetest.cn. You study the paper you already chose.
