Pleco vs Chinese Trainer: dictionary vs guided study

Pleco wins character lookup, pinyin, examples, and add-ons. It is reference, not a syllabus.

Pleco flashcards exist, but building a full HSK plan there is extra work. It does not replace level guides or registration on chinesetest.cn.

Pleco presents itself as a Chinese dictionary for iOS and Android. It wins OCR, audio, examples, and paid add-ons. OCR is optical character recognition: you point at hanzi and read the gloss. That is not an HSK syllabus.

Teaching note: pointing at 语 (yǔ, language) on a sign does not teach you to use 汉语 (Hànyǔ, Chinese) in 我是学生 (wǒ shì xuésheng). Lookup and production are different jobs.

Method on the ground: say 我有预订 and show the passport. If a character on the sign breaks, then the camera. Sentence first. Gloss second.

On a menu, 我要这个 plus a finger beats photographing twenty dishes. The restaurant catalogue lives in restaurant phrases, not in Pleco Plus.

Teaching note: 请再说一遍 is said to a person. OCR does not ask for a repeat. If you only read glosses, the platform ear never enters. The short trip has another path: Chinese for travel.
