SuperChinese and SuperTest vs Chinese Trainer if you are preparing for the HSK

“Learn Chinese” is not a job. A concrete hire is.

One hire is a short-lesson course: open the app, finish a block of about ten minutes, stop. The product picks the next topic. SuperChinese sells that shape.

Another hire is an HSK paper drill: listening, reading, writing, mocks, a huge question bank. SuperTest sells that.

Another hire is today’s queue: which words are due in spaced repetition, which listening set you run, which line you write, plus a tutor that sees your level. That is the shape Chinese Trainer ships.

You can run two tools. You should not pretend all three do the same work. Our HelloChinese and Duolingo posts answer other products; this article is not a clone of those pages.

Price shape is part of the hire too. SuperChinese publishes USD on PLUS and CHAO pages. We publish euro plans. SuperTest bills through the store; we do not have a verified 2026 EUR figure for it. Calling something “cheap” without currency and caps is noise.

If you only want cheap habit, other apps feel more like a game. If you have an HSK date, paper format wins. Official registration and framework: chinesetest.cn and CLEC.

With a date in about ten weeks, the usual hire is items, timed listening, and the level list. With a taste for pleasant lessons and no date, the short course wins. Mixing both without writing the job on paper is how you end up with three subscriptions and zero mocks.

The SuperChinese homepage describes a path from zero toward what they call HSK 5 fluency. They claim 170+ topics and 900+ lessons of about ten minutes. They say teachers design the lessons and that AI is used where it helps. They market CHAO as an AI tutor that explains mistakes and gives speaking feedback.

They also claim “12 million learners.” That is their marketing claim. It is not our measurement. We do not adopt it as a fact we counted.

The PLUS pricing page, as checked for this article, lists USD 11.99 for one month and a discounted annual or lifetime presentation (lifetime shown as USD 149.99, with a highlighted annual figure of USD 69.99). Their table shows HSK 1–9 vocabulary limited on free and included on PLUS and CHAO. AI Personal Tutor, a tutoring session, and essay correction sit on CHAO, not PLUS.

The CHAO page lists USD 24.99 for one month and USD 89.99 for six months, as dollar figures on that page. We do not convert those to euros as if they were an official European list price. Dollars can change. Tax and store rules can change the charge.

What this comparison does not do: judge CHAO’s speech recognition quality. We do not claim it is good or bad. We only report what they publish.

SuperChinese fits if you want a lesson path with a product mascot feel and a branded tutor on top. It does not fit if all you need is past papers and a listening timer.

SuperTest and its Google Play listing (`com.hskonline`) are a separate product. Play copy describes HSK 1–6, mocks and past papers, listening, reading, and writing drills, vocabulary, and answer explanations. They state a bank of 300,000+ questions. That is their listing figure. We did not audit every item.

SuperTest is not SuperChinese with a new coat of paint. It is the drill. If your date is close and the fear is audio and reading format, a large item bank makes sense. If you still cannot say 谢谢 (xièxie, thank you) out loud, a wall of mocks will scare you without teaching a daily habit.

On yuan or euro store prices: we do not have a verified 2026 EUR price. Store figures vary by country. We do not repeat them here as a fixed plan.

We also do not claim to have more questions than 300,000. Our public word inventory (below) is a different object from an exam item bank. A question bank and a vocabulary list are not the same thing.

Spanish roundups that name SuperTest are often hunting for “HSK practice questions,” not for a mascot course. If that is your search intent, start with SuperTest’s job description, then decide whether you still need a daily queue elsewhere. Do not buy CHAO because a list ranked SuperTest high.

Chinese Trainer ships an HSK path, spaced repetition (SRS), 204 graded readings, writing and listening practice, and an AI tutor. The free plan opens HSK 1–2 with 3 uses per day per feature and 3 tutor messages. Standard is €5/month and 20 tutor messages per day. Premium is €10/month, no daily tutor cap, tutor memory, and generated readings. There is a 7-day trial. Euro numbers live on /pricing.

Who builds the daily queue: we do. Who sells the ~10-minute lesson course with a mascot-like product path: SuperChinese. Who sells the pile of HSK items: SuperTest. Where AI sits: on SuperChinese mainly in CHAO; here mainly on Premium (with caps on lower plans). Neither AI is the HSKK examiner (the separate speaking test).

A minimal HSK 1 line you should hear and say, not only read on a card: 我要水 (wǒ yào shuǐ, I want water). If you have only seen it as still pinyin, the listening paper can drop it.

Pick SuperChinese if you are hiring short lessons, a long path toward their idea of HSK 5, and CHAO as published. It fits when there is no date yet, or when the pain is “I do not know which lesson to open.” It does not fit if you only want past papers at full volume.

Pick SuperTest if you are hiring HSK 1–6 item volume, mocks, and answer explanations. It fits when the date is near and you already have basic vocabulary. It does not fit as your only app from zero with no review queue.

Pick Chinese Trainer if you are hiring one account that decides today’s reviews, level listening, and a tutor with clear euro caps. It fits when you want one HSK thread without pretending we are SuperChinese or that we hold 300,000 questions.

Combine if the budget allows: course or queue on weekdays, mock drills on the weekend. Do not pay two subscriptions the same month only because an app list made you anxious.

Do not pick on invented stars. This article does not invent reviews or a “we used it for 30 days” story. Read the linked pages and hire for the job.

Days 1–2. Write the job on paper: lessons, items, or queue. Open only the app that matches that sentence. If you open all three, you are collecting, not comparing.

Day 3. Run a real session. On SuperChinese, one ~10-minute lesson. On SuperTest, one listening or reading block at the level you claim. Here, the daily queue on free HSK 1–2. Note whether you left knowing what to do tomorrow.

Day 4. Check the ceiling. Did AI push you to CHAO? Did the item bank scare you without a list? Did the free cap of 3 uses show you the system? Caps matter more than “millions of learners” copy.

Day 5. Tie it to the paper. Open an HSK guide for your level. If you cannot point to listening and reading in the format, the app has not put you in front of the exam yet.

Day 6. Price. Read USD on PLUS/CHAO or euros on /pricing. Do not convert by guesswork. Ask whether your store adds tax.

Day 7. Choose one primary tool. If a second tool exists, give it a written job (“mocks on Saturday”), not “just in case.”

Honesty check: if you still mix 妈妈 (māma, mum) and 马 (mǎ, horse) by ear, it is not time for an HSK 4 mock. It is time for ear work and a short list.
